We will continue our study on animals. Learning how to say different pets, farm animals, and zoo animals in Spanish. We will also learn how to describe animals like we learned to describe ourselves earlier in the year. For SK through 2nd, we will continue animals as well. Learning how to spell and pronounce all of our new animal words properly.
We began animal vocabulary in grades 3rd through 6th this week. We are learning words for farm animals, pets, and zoo animals. They had some activities they had to complete dealing with this new vocabulary. They had to identify the animal from the picture with their Spanish name, had a crossword, and some riddles they had to figure out. After, we played some trivia as a class to practice our new words. I displayed a picture on the board with four answers, they must answer the correct animal before their opponent to score a point for their team.
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We began playing our board games of Colombia. I am so proud of how they all turned out. We had a "Name that Song," "Guess Who," "Colombian Soccer Monopoly," and a lot of varieties of trivia games. We will begin learning some new vocabulary next week. In SK through 2nd, we will continue learning animal vocabulary. We have several different activities to do. Matching, word search, crosswords, and riddles.
We have continued to work on our Colombian projects. In 3rd through 6th, we have been working on our board games. We will continue after Spring Break to try and finish them. In SK through 2nd to continue with our study of Colombia, we learned about the national bird of Colombia, the Andean Condor. We used paper plates as the body and had cut outs for the wings and face. We will try and finish those today or the week after Spring Break. Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Spring Break!!!!!!
We continued working on our board games this week with the Colombian twist. I've encouraged them to get as creative as possible with these board games and bring any extra materials in that they would like. I am giving them two or three more weeks to work on it since Spring Break cuts in the middle of this time. In SK through 2nd, we continued our Colombian study by learning about their country bird, the Condor. We learned some facts about this bird, then made our own Condor out of paper plates and cut outs.
We are beginning are study on Colombia for Memphis in March. Colombia is a Spanish speaking country so it is perfect for us to start learning about during class. In 3rd through 6th, we are creating our own board game. I had them brainstorm today, naming other popular board games. They then split off into groups and began creating their board, directions, rules, and pieces for this game. All board games must involve Colombia or Spanish in their design, trivia, and creation. In SK through 2nd, we are beginning learning basic facts about Colombia. Today, we will create our own trivia booklet.
Everyone did a wonderful job on their STEAM Spanish projects! I really was proud of all the hard work and creativity that was put into their stories! And now that STEAM is over, we can dive back into learning more vocabulary. :) We will start off by learning sports vocabulary. We learn terms for the sport, equipment, facilities, and other terms they may use.
We will continue to work on our STEAM projects this week and next week. Everyone is working very hard on them. Its fun to see the creativity that they are putting into their stories.
Here are the two sites some have been asking about... Site with three fairytales translated www.spanishexperiment.com Spanish translator www.spanishdict.com We only have next week and then half of that following week until STEAM night. We will be working on our STEAM projects until then. The students may bring it home and work on it there as well. Their storybooks should be nicely displayed and neat. Some groups expressed interest in putting their storybook in a binder to display. They are most definitely allowed to do that. They can get creative with this project and add whatever they may like to their book to make unique and creative. We will not have Spanish for Cordova campus next week, so we will have to continue on the projects the Monday before STEAM. I will have White Station next week and it will be our last class until STEAM.
ENJOY THE THREE DAY WEEKEND!!!!!! |
